Why take a UKCAT® course with Kaplan?

Each year we have a number of students ask us if they need to take a course in order to prepare for the UKCAT. Applying to medicine or dentistry has a number of requirements designed to help universities decipher between thousands of candidates, such as:

  • Outstanding GCSE and A Level results

  • Relevant extra-curricular activities

  • Strong personal statements

  • UKCAT scores

As the UKCAT can only be taken once per application cycle, it is essential that you are fully prepared and ready to tackle the test. We prepare thousands of students each year for the UKCAT exam and pride ourselves on providing the best, most comprehensive option in the market.

Why take a Kaplan UKCAT course?

Our Reputation

We have worked very hard over the last 10 years to ensure that our students receive quality preparation that works. We update our content each year to make sure it is up to date with the latest changes to the exam. Check out our customer reviews and see what our past students thought.

Our UKCAT Teachers

Kaplan UKCAT teachers have all scored in the top 10% in the UKCAT exam and go through a rigorous training programme designed to assess their teaching ability, including; auditions, observations and continuous student feedback (through structured student surveys after class). This is essential, as not all high scorers make good teachers!

Ongoing Teacher Support Until Your Test

Although books can be a great help and can help you learn the majority of skills and tips required to succeed in the exam, during a course you will benefit from interaction with a teacher, have your questions answered and learn from the feedback from an expert in this field. This teacher support will be provided to you right through until your test.

Comprehensive UKCAT Instruction in Just Two Days!

Our course also provides you with a more structured environment for learning. This ensures you only spend as much time as you need, on each aspect of the exam and do not waste time on something less relevant to your performance on test day. You will go through each section of the test at both a basic and advanced level, ensuring you know how to categorise the questions and answer each question type. Timed questions are used throughout the lessons to make sure the information and strategies are sinking in. We also have 4-day course options available, for students that prefer a slower pace.

Practice Materials

Our Online Study Plan includes 2 months of access to 6 online practice tests30 section-specific quizzes and 500 Mastery Set Questions, for students to work through after the course has finished. We do not waste valuable teaching time on invigilating full length tests, as other preparation providers sometimes do.

All our practice questions come with detailed explanations, not only detailing why the correct answer is correct, but also why the incorrect answers are not right. You will also have your own personalised student dashboard, visible each time you log in to your Online Study Plan, highlighting your score improvement and your weaker areas, in order to target your study.

Test-like Materials

We invest a lot of time and resources into making sure that our courses and materials are up to date every year and as test-like as possible. A book cannot adapt without releasing a new edition, and as test changes are often announced in the April before testing begins, there is not much time for publishers to do this! We also ensure our testing interface closely follows the one you will see on test day, so you will not waste time getting used to a new testing format.

What course option should you choose?

It is important that you prepare in a way that suits you and the way that you learn, which is why we have a number of different course formats available to suit different learning styles.

  • If you want a classroom experience and to interact with your teacher and other students, then our Classroom Course (offered at 30 locations in the UK and Ireland) or our Live Online Course would be the best options for you.

  • If you are looking for a one-to-one, completely tailored learning experience, then Private Tutoring would be the most suitable option for you. Available either in-person and also live online, enabling us to cater to a wider range of student locations and time zones.

  • We also offer UKCAT Plus, which provides 3 additional practice tests and 4 hours additional online content review, for students looking to get ahead with extra practice.

Lauren B, a Birmingham Classroom Course Student, scored 3020, Band 3

As I was the only student at my school sitting the UKCAT, I felt I had little help and was concerned about how I would score. I feel taking part in the Kaplan course helped me massively as it provided me with skills and tips to allow me to succeed in the exam and get a score high enough to apply to the University of my choice. I can now happily say I start my Medicine degree at this University in just over a week - this may not have been possible without my help from Kaplan.

Yue W, a Live Online Course Student, scored 3220, Band 1

I really enjoyed the UKCAT prep. It gave me some very useful advice particularly with triaging but the best thing about this course was probably the confidence and reassurance it gave me that it is possible to do well by putting in effort and it's not a game of luck.

Alice S, a London Classroom Course Student, scored 2790, Band 1

Kaplan was fantastic; it gave me the skills to tackle each section in a logical way, but also the teaching and the resources we were given meant that I continued to practice in a productive way. The methods I learnt from Kaplan, and the practice tests, meant I knew exactly what to expect from my UKCAT test and how to approach each question. Without Kaplan, I definitely would have not got the score I did.

Sammy G : "You can see the teaching is actually working."

Sammy was referred to us by a current medical student who took a Kaplan course. She found the Kaplan strategies to be a helpful boost to the prep she did in advance.

Rupert V W: “It’s a great way to kick-off my learning in the UKCAT.”

Rupert took the UKCAT exam last year but didn’t get the high score needed for medical admission. This year he chose to take a Kaplan course based on recommendations, to boost his score.
