NEW SAT Course! Introducing Kaplan's New SAT Classroom Course

Our classroom experience has been redesigned to be even more engaging for students in an effort to promote better learning, increased retention and most importantly; higher scores.

Our SAT Preparation course is 10 sessions long; six sessions are 3-hour classroom sessions and 4 are full-length practice test sessions.

The classroom sessions will focus on either Math or Verbal and will each cover 3 topics. A class session will consist of:

- Warm-up Activity
- Topic One (50 minutes)
- Topic Two (50 minutes)
- Topic Three (50 minutes)
- Wrap-up

For each of the three topics covered, students will experience three segments: Direct Instruction, Guided Group Work and Independent Practice:

  • Direct Instruction: The teacher will present information to students and use Socratic questioning techniques to activate students' prior knowledge of the topic. The teacher will introduce and review relevant vocabulary and use Kaplan's methods and strategies to solve test-like problems.

  • Guided Group Work: course books include leveled problems for each topic. After Direct Instruction, the teacher will group students and assign them appropriately leveled problems. Students will work on the exercises collaboratively, while the teacher circulates and facilitates group work.

  • Independent Practice: During this segment of the class, the teacher engages students in practice activities which are designed to be quick, game-like and fun. The activities are a way for students to reinforce and test their understanding of the topics and strategies that they have just learned and practiced.

Course Materials

SAT Course Book: contains the lessons and homework that will be taught and reviewed in each of the classroom sessions.

SAST Study Sheet: Found at the back of the SAT Course Book, this two-sided sheet contains the most important math and grammar concepts that will be tested on the SAT. It can be torn out and used as a reference when students complete their homework, or as a quick review on Test Day.

SAT in a box - Flashcards: Students receive a box of 600 colour-coded flashcards (200 each for Vocabulary, Math and Writing). The Vocabulary flashcards help students master important vocabulary words with sample sentences showing the words in context. The Math flashcards review advanced math topics like radical equations, coordinate geometry and more. The writing cards help students sharpen grammar and usage skills, which enables them to avoid common usage mistakes on Test Day.

Purple Book of Practice SATs: contains four full-length Kaplan-created practice tests including Experimental sections. These tests offer significant practice opportunities to allow students to build confidence and endurance. Complete explanations for both correct and incorrect answers enable students to hone their test-taking skills.

Student Online Resources: Students will receive a username and password to allow them to log into their Online Centre. Here they will find:

  • Customised Study Plan: Based on the result of the student's Diagnostic test and performance in the quizzes, skills will be prioritised depending on the number of times they appear on the tests, to ensure that your preparation is as efficient as possible.
  • Instructional Videos: Each skill within a program's scope and sequence has an instructional video. Each instructional video is led by a Kaplan-trained instructor and focuses on a specific aspect of the SAT. Each video will take between 4 and 8 minutes to review.
  • Guided Practice: Each Guided Practice module contains three practioce questions about a specific aspect of the SAT. Students can concentrate on implementing Kaplan Strategies and methods as they work through each question. If they need help, students can receive a hint from the system. Each module will take between 5 and 10 minutes to complete.
  • Quizzes: Each quiz is focused on a particular aspect of the SAT and will take approximately 15 minutes to complete.
  • Course Work: Students are required to complete online homework and quizzes after class. These are shown in the "Course Work" tab.
  • Progress and Performance Reports: Smart Reports show individual Practice Test results. Students can see their overall score and the detail behind the score.
