Course Structure

Once you receive your course materials you will begin your course with a diagnostic test. This will help determine a plan for your preparation by determining you weaknesses and strengths.

Using the online video lectures you can begin concentrating on your weaker areas first. The video lectures and lecture notes will help you to achieve the knowledge and strategy techniques needed for success. Throughout your preparation you will also take assessment tests on subjects to help determine your current level and see which areas you need to focus on.

Towards the end of your preparation you can take a full-length simulated exam online to test yourself in exam-like conditions.

Test Overview

USMLE Step 2 CK

Step 2 CK assesses application to patient care, health promotion and disease prevention. The exam tests the clinical sciences:

  • Internal Medicine
  • Pediatrics
  • OB/GYN
  • Surgery
  • Neurology
  • Psychiatry
  • Public Health

Test Format

  • 352 questions
  • 9 hours of testing (including an hour of break time).
  • Minimum passing score 189
  • No more than 5 multi-media clips per exam

Test Scores

Minimum passing score: 189/75

The 75 is not a percentage, it is a percentile (this 2 digit score will be removed as of mid- 2012. 

Register for the Test

USMLE Step 2 CK

International medical graduates must register for Steps 1 and 2 CK through the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG).

Registering and scheduling your exam date is a multi-step process:

  1. Secure the application materials
    The ECFMG require you to send official copies of numerous documents including your transcripts and medical diploma.
  2. Complete the application and submit with a recent photo and application fee
    Your application requires you to choose a 3-month "eligibility period". This is the time in which you want to take the exams. You must take your exam in the eligibility period assigned. Your application will take 4-6 weeks for processing.
  3. Receive your Scheduling Permit
    Once your application is processed, you will receive a Scheduling Permit. This tells you the start and end dates of your 3-month eligibility period, instructions on scheduling your exam, your Scheduling Number and your Candidate Identification Number.
  4. Schedule your test date directly with the Prometric centre
    To select your test date you need to contact the Prometric centre. Your Scheduling Permit will have instructions on contacting them.
