Kaplan’s Tailored USMLE Structured Study has been developed by expert Kaplan Medical Faculty in the US. You will be provided with the most up-to-date USMLE Step 1 and 2CK information vital for test day success.
You will receive unlimited access to the London Center. USMLE Students at the center receive access to an exclusive USMLE Media Lab, providing a fully equipped area to study.
Center based students also receive support from our Medical Programs Manager who can advise on Residency, the USMLE series and help your journey to work in the US.
Every Doctors USMLE Structured Study course starts with a Diagnostic Test and a meeting with the Medical Programs Manager who will guide you through a study program and the center’s facilities.
Your Diagnostic Test is taken online and acts to guide your study plan. All students studying at the center receive PLS which tells you what to study, when and if you need further study or should move on to the next subject.
Your USMLE Step 1 and 2CK study will base around lectures that are available on DVD or our media server. The lectures are provided by expert Medical Faculty in the US, who will provide International Medical Graduates with a unique insight into the USMLE Step 1 and 2CK. You will receive a full set of lecture notes for each subject that will be used in conjunction with these lectures.

USMLE Step 1
Step 1 emphasizes mechanisms of health, disease and modes of therapy and tests basic science principles:

Interdisciplinary areas such as genetics, immunology, and nutrition are also tested.
USMLE Step 2 CK
Step 2 CK assesses application to patient care, health promotion and disease prevention. The exam tests the clinical sciences:
- Internal Medicine
- Pediatrics
- OB/GYN
- Surgery
- Neurology
- Psychiatry
- Public Health
USMLE Step 1
- 350 questions
- 8 hours of testing (including an hour of break time).
- Questions are divided into 7 blocks of 50 completely random questions.
- Most question items assess basic medical science concepts in the form of clinical vignettes.
USMLE Step 2 CK
- 370 questions
- 9 hours of testing (including an hour of break time).
- Two multiple-choice formats used on Step 2 CK: single best answer and single answer matching
USMLE Step 1
The minimum test score for the USMLE Step 1 is 185, this represents a student answering between 55-65% of questions correctly. Please note however, that this is considerably lower than the average USMLE Step 1 score for US Medical Graduates which is 220-240.
USMLE Step 2 CK
Minimum passing score: 184/75 - This corresponds to answering 60-70% of the items correctly, approximately 222 -259 questions.
Steps 1 and 2 CK
International medical graduates must register for Steps 1 and 2 CK through the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG).
Registering and scheduling your exam date is a multi-step process:
- Secure the application materials
The ECFMG require official copies of numerous documents including your transcripts and medical diploma - Complete the application, provide a recent photo and submit with your application fee
On your application form you will be asked to choose a 3-month "eligibility period" during which you want to take your exams. Your application will take 4-6 weeks for processing. - Receive your Scheduling Permit
You will receive a Scheduling Permit once your application has been processed. This permit will tell you the start and end dates of your 3-month eligibility period, your Scheduling Number, instructions on scheduling your exam, and your Candidate Identification Number. - Schedule your test date directly with the Prometric centre
You should schedule your exam with the Prometric center, your Scheduling Permit will have instructions on contacting them.
