GRE Private Tutoring

If you can't attend a GRE Classroom Course then private tutoring provides a flexible option for GRE preparation. Tutoring sessions are tailored to your needs based upon your specifications and the results of a diagnostic GRE test which you will take before starting your tuition.

Can’t decide between a Classroom Course or Private Tutoring?

If you have never taken the GRE before, we would definitely recommend you take a GRE Classroom Course as it covers the entire syllabus in a structured way. You can also add some Private Tutoring to your classroom course if there are things you would like some more help with.

Reasons to Choose a GRE Classroom Course
  • You have never taken the GRE before
  • You would like to cover the whole GRE syllabus in a structured format
  • You benefit from group discussion and interaction
Reasons to Choose GRE Private Tutoring
  • Your schedule does not allow you to attend fixed classroom sessions
  • You have specific needs and goals
  • You have taken the GRE before and know precisely what you need to cover

GRE tutoring is available in either 5 or 10 hour packages.

Test Overview

The Graduate Record Examination (GRE) General Test is designed to provide US graduate schools with a common measure for comparing their applicants’ qualifications. The exam does not test specific subject knowledge and instead measures quantitative, verbal and analytical writing skills.  You will be required to take the GRE if you wish to go on to graduate (post-graduate) study in the US.

Test Format

Verbal Section

Time: 30 minutes
Format: 30 questions
Topics Tested: Reading, Analytical Reasoning, Vocabulary
Question Types: Sentence Completions, Analogies, Reading Comprehension, Antonyms

Quantitative Section

Time: 45 minutes
Format: 28 questions
Topics Tested: Basic Math, Mathematical Concepts, Quantitative Reasoning
Question Types: Problem Solving, Quantitative Comparisons

Writing Assessment

Time: 75 minutes
Format: One 45-minute essay, One 30-minute essay
Topics Tested: Analysis of an Argument, Analysis of an Issue

Test Scores

Each of the three sections on the GRE is scored separately.  You will be given a "scaled score" within a range of 200-800 for both the quantitative and verbal sections. You will also receive a score on a scale of 0 to 6 for the writing section.

A percentile rank will be given in addition to scaled scores. Your performance will be calculated relative to those of a large sample population of other GRE takers, giving you a percentile rank.  This means that if you scored higher than 60% of GRE test takers you scored in the 60th percentile.

Register for the Test

As the GRE is a computerized test it is available throughout the year.

You register for the GRE with the Educational Testing Service (ETS). The most convenient way to find a testing center and register is online at www.gre.org.

Currently the cost to take the exam in the US $140. To take the exam outside the US the cost is $170.  ETS takes most major credit cards.
