Course Structure & Schedules

GRE Online Diagnostic

All GRE students should take their diagnostic (MST1) in the GRE Online Center before the first session of their course. To qualify for Kaplan's Higher Score Guarantee, the diagnostic must be completed before the first taught session.

Math and Verbal Lessons

Our targeted classroom lessons will assist you in gaining the maximum amount of points in the least amount of time. GRE Essay grading service

Kaplan teachers will score your practice essays and provide you with feedback to improve your skills for the essay portion of the GRE.

Teacher Availability

A Kaplan teacher is available during weekly Saturday afternoon drop-in sessions to answer any questions you may have outside of class. Teachers are also available to answer questions for 30 minutes after every class and workshop, as well as by email correspondence.

Workshops

Optional workshops are held on select Monday and Thursday evenings throughout the month and focus on specific question types.

GRE Training Library

The GRE training library at the Kaplan center includes reference books, basic and advanced math review books, admissions guides, and more.

Study Facilities, Computers and Wireless Access

The Kaplan center is open 7 days a week, including many public holidays, providing you with a convenient place to study in central London and the opportunity to form ad hoc study groups with other graduate school applicants. GRE Classroom Course + 6 hours Graduate School Admissions Consulting

The GRE Premium Package combines our GRE Classroom Course with 6 hours of one-on-one Graduate School Admissions Consulting with an expert consultant. Admissions Consulting is especially effective for those applying to the most competitive schools as it provides individually tailored help with all aspects of the application process, from writing outstanding essays to targeting applications towards individual schools. This package is also recommended for non-native English speakers.

GRE Classroom Course + Math Refresher Package: £945

Take our GRE Classroom Course combined with our exclusive Math Refresher course to brush up on your Math skills before or alongside your GRE lessons. Math Refresher builds a strong foundation in the essential GRE quantitative skills of Algrebra, Geometry and Arithmetic. If you are worried about your Math level then this package is for you.

Test Overview

The Graduate Record Examination (GRE) General Test is designed to provide US graduate schools with a common measure for comparing their applicants’ qualifications. The exam does not test specific subject knowledge and instead measures quantitative, verbal and analytical writing skills. You will be required to take the GRE if you wish to go on to graduate (post-graduate) study in the US.

GRE Test Format

Verbal Section (Two Sections)

Time: 30 minutes
Format: 20 questions
Topics Tested: Reading, Analytical Reasoning, Vocabulary
Question Types: Verbal: Text Completion, Sentence Equivalence, Reading Comprehension (with increased focus on short passages)

Quantitative Section

Time: 35 minutes
Format: 20 questions
Topics Tested: Basic Math, Mathematical Concepts, Quantitative Reasoning
Question Types: Problem Solving, Quantitative Comparisons, Data Interpretation

Writing Assessment

Time: 60 minutes
Format: Two 30 minute essays
Topics Tested: Analysis of an Argument, Analysis of an Issue

Test Scores

Each of the three sections on the GRE is scored separately. You will be given a "scaled score" within a range of 130-170 for both the quantitative and verbal sections in one point increments. You will also receive a score on a scale of 0 to 6 for the writing section.

A percentile rank will be given in addition to scaled scores. Your performance will be calculated relative to those of a large sample population of other GRE takers, giving you a percentile rank. This means that if you scored higher than 60% of GRE test takers you scored in the 60th percentile.

Register for the Test

As the GRE is a computerized test it is available throughout the year.

You register for the GRE with the Educational Testing Service (ETS). The most convenient way to find a testing center and register is online at www.gre.org.

There will be a discount 50% fee reduction in August & September.

Currently the cost to take the exam in the US $160. To take the exam outside the US the cost is $170. ETS takes most major credit cards.
