All International Graduates who wish to become Board Licensed in the US will need to complete a Residency Training Program. To gain a training program you’ll need to participate in the National Residency Matching Program (NRMP – www.nrmp.org). US Residency Match takes place in the March of every year and this year it was the biggest in history, filling over 95% of the positions available.
The National Residency Matching Program (NRMP), the most popular of all the Matches, matching the main Programs and Specialties. The Advanced Data has just been released from the 2010 Match and the 2010 Match is revealed to be the most successful, matching over 95% of the positions with applicants. Below are the most striking trends for 2010:
- More US Graduates then ever took place in the 2010 Match, making it more competitive for International Medical Graduates.
- Over 8,000 International Graduates took place in the Match.
- 68% of all US Graduates who applied to the Match gained Residency Training.
- Internal Medicine and Family Practice were the most popular Specialties for International Medical Graduates.
- Neurological surgery, orthopaedic surgery, dermatology & otolaryngology were the most competitive fields. 90% of these positions were filled by US Graduates.
- Without International Graduates nearly 8,000 positions would have gone unfilled.
